EDiMA Celebrates its First Year's Success in promoting the interest of the new digital media sector and Elects New Board Adriano Marconetto, President of Vitaminic SpA, appointed as new President of EDiMA
Milan/London - 11 July 2001. The European Digital Media Association (EDiMA) - the only pan-European organisation representing new digital media companies at EU and national level, such as Vitaminic, RealNetworks, Fnac.com, Music Choice Europe and Amazon - laid down its strategy for the next 12 months and elected a new Board during its first Annual General Meeting in London this week.
EDiMA’s strategy for the coming year focuses on consolidating the sphere of influence the association has created in issues ranging from use of technology in the digital media sector to licenses for on-line distribution of digital content over the past year.
Mr. Adriano Marconetto of Vitaminic, Europe’s leading digital platform for the promotion and distribution of music over the Internet and other electronic networks, takes up the Presidency of EDiMA with a clear view on the way forward for the association, “EDiMA has great opportunities in a rapidly growing market and in a still undefined copyright management environment on the Net. We’ll try to satisfy the needs of the new media companies acting in the digital contents management sector. It is my intention to contribute to encourage clear and homogeneous rules, so that EDiMA can represent more and more a point of reference for all people working in this specific sector”.
Marconetto's appointment strengthens EDiMA's capability and his position within the heart of the online music industry brings further insight into the needs of companies represented by the association. He is also Chairman and Vice President of Industry Relations at Vitaminic S.p.A and as President of Zipmind Srl, a music publishing subsidiary of Vitaminic.
Marconetto will be assisted in his new role by Mr. Njara Zafimehy of Fnac.com and Mr. Simon Bazalgette of Music Choice Europe, the other two officers of the new Board. EDiMA’s most notable achievement in its first year in existence has been the creation of a voice for new digital media companies in the fledgling EU digital space. In addition, EDiMA negotiates and signs on-line model licences on behalf of its members with national collecting societies. Through an extensive lobbying campaign, EDiMA has also managed to ensure that the EU Copyright Directive remains balanced between the interests of users and rights holders. Finally, EDiMA constantly informs the European Commission of its views on agreements and practices in the EU that directly affect the business of EDiMA members.
