EDiMA sets up new technology committee to promote the interests of the new digital media sector
Ariel Peled, VP R&D and Co-founder of Vidius Technologies, appointed as Chairman of new EDiMA Technology Committee

Brussels - 18 July 2001. The European Digital Media Association (EDiMA) - the only pan-European organization representing new digital media companies at EU and national level, such as Vitaminic, RealNetworks, Fnac.com, Music Choice Europe, Vidius Technologies, VirginMega.fr and Amazon - has just established a new technology committee which will steer the association's activities with respect to technology developments and protocols in the digital media sector.

Mr. Ariel Peled of Vidius Technologies, a leading US technology company dedicated to the secure distribution of digital media over Internet protocols, takes up the chairmanship of the new EDiMA technology committee with a clear idea of the way forward for EDiMA on the technology front. "We need to push legislators to recognise the importance of policing and protection against piracy, while engaging other industry actors in constructive dialogue on standards acceptable to all".

The EDiMA Licensing Committee, already in existence for over a year, will now be chaired by Mr. Simon Bazalgette of Music Choice Europe. Mr. Bazalgette intends to continue the good work done by the Committee over the past 12 months which saw the conclusion of a licensing deal between EDiMA and the SIAE - the Italian collecting society - and aims to conclude other such deals with other EU collecting societies in the coming year.
